Safety
All range officers are certified members of the Fédération québécoise de tir and are present during all target shooting sessions in the club.
Qualified members have officiated at many events on a volunteer basis.
0.0 accidents in over 70 years of Club target shooting activities.
Range Safety
Please follow the commands of the range officer at all times.
Always point firearms in a safe direction
Unless in use, firearms should be unloaded and visibly safe at all times
Never handle or approach a firearm after the “come behind the red line” command has been given
Never handle or approach a firearm when someone is downrange
The range commands listed are the typical ones. Some range officers may use different terminology; however, the basic steps remain the same.
Range Commands
For rifle relays the commands are:
- Put up your targets
- Once everyone is back behind the line
- Take your positions
- Is the line ready?
- This is a 10-minute relay
- Report all misfires
- Load & commence fire
- After 10 minutes, unless otherwise called
- Cease-Fire
- Make your gun safe
- Collect your brass
- Come behind the red line
- Once the guns are safe
- Go get your targets
- Once everyone has retrieved their targets
- Put your firearms in storage
For handgun relays the commands are:
- Put up your targets
- Once everyone is back behind the line
- Take your positions
- Prepare your equipment
- Is the line ready?
- This is a 10-minute relay
- Report all misfires
- Load & commence fire
- After 10 minutes, unless otherwise called
- Cease-Fire
- Secure and put away your guns
- Come behind the red line
- Once the range office has inspected the firearms
- Put your firearms in storage
- Once the guns have been stored
- Go get your targets
